Älvsborg nursery – “Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better.” – Einstein

We celebrated Earth Day together. We learned about protecting the Earth and how to treat it well. The children used their imagination to paint their own pictures of the Earth after we looked at examples. We then went outside and collected sticks which we then painted with different colours, and then made into a rainbow wind chime.

When the weather is good it’s great to go out into the forest together. The children learn how to walk over and climb over different terrains, and they can become more confident. When we went down to the football field we practiced balancing by walking across the lines that are painted on the field.

image1-1.jpg
At lunch time we try to show our friends how we like to eat our food. Some of us prefer to use spoons, some of us forks, and some of us prefer to use our hands. The children understand that every way of eating is okay, and the important thing is to be who you are, even if that means that you get a bit messy!

image2.jpg

When we practice free play the children learn how to play together as friends. They get to decide to do what interests them, whether that be reading books, playing with cars, or playing in the sand. The children can learn about friendship and the ways in which they can play with their friends, through sharing and showing kindness.

Lunch time is a great time to show the children how we all are different, and that we all like and prefer different things and that nothing is wrong, because with food its all right! Thank you for also sharing your outing in which they learned about balance and coordination and the earth day where they appreciated the earth a little bit extra!

Majorna Kindy “It is frightfully difficult to know much about the fairies, and almost the only thing for certain is that there are fairies wherever there are children.” ― J.M. Barrie

The sunny weather gave kindy a chance to go on a fantasy trip to go outside and look for hidden small beautiful Fairies!

Majorna Preschool – Spring cleaning

Spring Cleaning

On Thursday 20th April 2017 as part of Earth Day we had Spring cleaning around our preschool, we invited the parents to help us in our cleaning activity. We had a lot of fun … as children, teachers and some parents all worked together to clean the playground. This gave the children the importance to care for our environment.

Our preschool invites the parents to participate in different activities. We are also involving Parents in assessing the work of the preschool.

A great initiative, thank you for teaching responsibility and for sharing the event with us.

Majorna Nursery – sharing moments together

As the weather has started improving, we have enjoyed going out together with preschool class. By sharing moments with children of other classes, the children are becoming familiar with the new routines, and with children that they will join next term.

Our IPS-children are always interested in new challenges – and at the moment many of the children have started to learn how to use scissors. It is a challenge for the children, but it is interesting to see how they try again, and again until the scissors finally cut the paper. A proud moment – as they develop their ability to play and learn,

“The preschool should strive to ensure that each child to develop their curiosity and enjoyment, as well as their ability to play and learn, developing self-autonomy and confidence in their own ability” (LPFÖ 98)

Majorna Nursery – Exploring our sensory and emotional feelings

One of the activities that we have done this month whilst exploring the letter “G”, has been to enjoy messy play with “Green Gelatin”. The children love sensory play, and with this type of activity they can explore different materials while they develop their five senses.

“Preschool teachers are responsible that children experience a sense of enjoyment and meaningfulness in learning what is new.” (lpfö98)

According to our theme – “Shapes and numbers”. The children have used toilet rolls, as they have stamped circles on to paper. We are not just learning about shapes, furthermore we are also helping the environment by using recycled toilet paper rolls to make the circles.

In the nursery we start the process of Second Step, and helping a child to develop their social and emotional skills. During this month we have also been learning about our feelings. What makes us happy? and what makes us sad? as we show our feelings through our expressive faces. It is important to know, and respect that sometimes we can be happy, and sometimes we can feel sad.

“The preschool should strive to ensure that each child develops the ability to take account of and empathise with the situation of others, as well as a willingness to help others.” (lpfö 98).

Learning about emotions, shapes, and having some messy sensory play sounds like a perfect recipe for a fun and eventful week! Thank you for sharing these events with us, and letting us be more part of nursery’s day in preschool.

Guldheden Preschool 1 – Exploring what helps us move around, in our world of differences.

This month our theme was about transportation – so our goal was for the children to learn about transportation, how we can travel, and by what means.
In this activity the children glued  ice cream Popsicles and after that they are painting them to the colors of their choice. Learning what an airplane is, how it sounds and how we can travel with it.

thumbnail_image1.jpg

Here the children are drawing the shapes of a car, a boat and an airplane, with three different colors to separate one from an other. After that we put our creations on our art corners.

thumbnail_image2.jpg

Here we are playing with cars, trucks, busses, airplanes and many other vehicles inside and outside of the classroom.

thumbnail_image3.jpg

On this day our children made their own traffic light! Using the colors red, yellow and green for “stop” “wait ” and “go” with their handprint.

thumbnail_image4.jpg

This day was “rock your socks day”. A day for us to support and honour those with Down syndrome.

thumbnail_image5.jpg

Amazing to see the children and IPS bringing awareness and showing respect to the people living with down syndrome, and to understand that we all are different in many ways but we are all equal! Thank you for sharing your week with us through your text and pictures.

Majorna Preschool – Experiencing music through singing and playing instruments together

Our group loves to sing together! Sometimes when we sing we dance, draw or, like in this video, add instruments. Through singing with the help of different tools the children can experience rhythm, melody and sound in various ways.

The preschool should strive to ensure that each child: “developed their creative abilities and the ability to convey impressions, thoughts and experiences in many different forms of expressions, such as play, pictures, songs and music, dance and drama” (Lpfö98, rev 2010, pg. 10)

Thank you teachers in Majorna Preschool for filming and sharing a short video with us from one of your lovely music sessions at preschool!

Majorna Kindy – Our home in the jungle

” Children should develop their ability to build, create and construct using different techniques, materials and tools. Lpfö 98. S, 10″

Our theme for this term is Jungle – so we were explored how to build we could build a house that would look like a house in a Jungle. We used the big cardboard boxes to build our house in our classroom.

image1.JPG

The children were very excited by the look of the house and they wanted to decorate it with different things so we used colored lights, and colorful shining pieces of glass.

image2.JPG

The children had an idea to put a door bell – they made their door bell by using a recycled can and a small piece of wood.image3.JPG

The children didn’t´t  want someone to break into the house, and make it untidy so they themselves decided to make rules and put them on the wall of their house. As they are unable to read, they drew pictures to show the rules.

image4.JPGimage5.JPGimage6.JPGimage7.JPG

Finally when our house was ready the children found that the house will look better with a door, so we made a curtain for our door.

image9.JPGimage8.JPG

image10.JPG

Our Jungle house is now finished. The children enjoy playing and having fun in it, they still think of new ways to make improvements.

What an amazingly fun projekt for both the kindy children, and the teachers! Thank you for letting us be part of it through your pictures!

Guldheden Kindy – Celebrating World Book Day

Being part of the nature, and appreciating all what it offers us is part of our learning process. We also aim to develop our curiosity, and enjoyment through our ability to play.

image1-1.JPG

Children are future adults that will take part in changing the society for the better. Our Preschool aims to prepare them for this by helping them develop their social skills and learning safety rules. During our theme about Transportation- we linked socializing and safety rules to our outings by taking different means of transportation. We focused on the safety rules as well as working together as a group as we understood the need to care about one another safety and comfort.

It is though reading that we have the greatest possibility of developing our language, imagination, fantasy as it  opens a wide window for us to see our world. It is for this reason that we work towards developing an interest in books. Even if the children cannot read by themselves. They love listening to the stories we read for them and now they even take turns to tell a story to their friends using their fantasy.  On World  Book Day , we went to the Göteborg city library to see and read books from different countries, and in different languages. We read a story in Arabic (which a teacher translated into English and sometimes Swedish). The children learned that Arabic is written from right to left. As our interest in books has developed, the children wrote their own book, as the teachers gathered the children´s drawings – they created a book called “Underwater World”.

image3.JPGimage4.JPGimage1.JPGimage5.JPG

Reading, having excursions and being one with nature are all great things to experience during a day.  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the kindy children’s day through your photos.

Biskopsgården Preschool 2 – Books, senses and the environment

We enjoyed an outing to Göteborg’s city library to celebrate World Book Day, our journey took us into the amazing world of books. The children had the opportunity to hear stories in English and Swedish and also meet their interests through books. Some children were interested in reading about planets, while others enjoyed stories about animals as well as family stories.

thumbnail_image1-1.jpgthumbnail_image1.jpg

we were developing creativity through the use of natural materials to make puppets and stick people.

thumbnail_image2.jpg

Senses games – Using our senses to explore, feel and understand the world around us. “Is it sweet or sour? How does it smell? Can you guess what it is?? ”

thumbnail_image4.jpgthumbnail_image3.jpg

Recycling in Preschool 2 – Separating paper from plastic and making a recycling corner in our classroom. Through this step we are teaching children about recycling, and thereby making them more aware of the impact our daily lives have on our environment.

thumbnail_image6.jpg

So many fun activities where you learn while having fun at the same time, the fruit-tasting was my favorite of the week. However, teaching the children about recycling and that we all must take our individual responsibility in helping the planet, and each other. Thank you teachers in Preschool 2 in Biskopsgården for sharing your week with us!
